My Brain is Amazing

I have an amazing brain. I'm not saying it's necessarily more amazing than yours (althought it could be, ha), but I don't have your brain, so I don't know. But i do know that mine is amazing. I don't know how, but when i need to recall something, it begins to work. I can feel it. I can't feel it in specific places, like "Oh there it is.. the lower left quadrant of my brain.." (i'm pretty sure that's what parts of the brain are called--quadrants) but I know it's working. For example:

Last night before going to sleep Sean and i were talking about how i can recall the theme music from totally random movies i haven't seen for years, nor were they particularly grand or stood out much. And then we were talking about the movie Far and Away and I couldn't remember the theme music. "Shoot! I can do it," i said. I kept singing the music from Lord of the Rings. (turns out, they both start out the same. I knew they must have been similiar, because why else would i be singing it? but i didn't know how they were similar). But i knew I was close. It was right there..riiiight there. But I just wasn't locating it. I said, "c'mon brain... come on!" and then about 2 seconds later i said, "GOT IT!" but i could only come up with a small bit. By this time I was pretty deliriously sleepy so I said, "Well, ok. I'm going to go to sleep now, brain. But while I do, try and find how the song goes and let me know when you have it, ok?"

Then i dreamt about how Gwen Stefani and I were pals and she invited me over to her house.

Morning comes. I am roused a bit from my sleep early in the morning and I immediately begin to sing (in my head) the correct and complete theme melody from Far and Away. It was as if my brain was saying, "wake up, Jen. I've got it. Jeeeen, wake uuuuup..." So, good job, brain! Thanks for helping me out. Ahh. Good ol' brain...

I've always been in awe of your amazing brain ... and your dreams. (To continue in the tradition of you always having much cooler dreams than mine, I had a dream last night that I had brown hair that was really greasy. Yep, that's it. Greasy brown hair.)

Ash, your dream is my reality.

Ha ha. That's what Trevor said, only not quite in those words because that sounds really rude. I think he just said something like, after I told him I had brown hair in my dream, "You've always been jealous of Jen, haven't you?" Funny.

The theme song thing must be another Scoresby genetic trait. I always do that...but my more impressive skill is telling you what actors have been on. I don't know their names but I can tell you that he was one of the guys at the mutant table in Wedding Singer.

P.S. They're called lobes, not quadrants. My brain is a little teed off it has to learn useless things.

As the only non-Jen witness to this feat of Jen's brain, I feel the need to clarify that when Jen says she spoke to her brain ("I'm going to go to sleep now, brain. But while I do...") she is totally serious, those really were the last words she said out loud before going to sleep. And the three of us slept very well...

Perhaps we should use the word "special" rather than "amazing."

Or how about "especially amazing"?

Or "freaking brilliant"? How about that??

hi jen, it's mary and i wanted to leave a comment but i'm a blogging virgin so i don't know if i did it right. can i use the word virgin in a blog or will i get censored? whenever i need to come up with some random piece of information, i visualize these little brain fetcher people, kind of like oompa loompas but not so freaky. they run around all over my brain and if someone was looking at an aerial view they'd look like ants, just crazy and chaotic, but actually very systematic. anyway, they run to whatever mental filing cabinet has the info and then pull out the corresponding manilla folder where i've stored the info. wow. i just read over what i read and i sound like a loon. oh well. jen, welcome to the freakish world of how my brain works. but i sympathize with the needing to recall something and having to work on it for a while. it once took me a week to come up with the name of the movie where julie andrews has a conversation with mary tyler moore while sitting on a bed. a whole week! and then, one morning, it was there. . .thoroughly modern millie. . .an absolute classic.

ha ha. i think i do that too. except i don't visualize little men, per se, but just little dots or electricity currents or whatever, all throughout my brain. I guess i don't picture little men because it would make me feel like little men/bugs/ants (yeah.. an ant isn't a bug) were in my brain and i'd feel uncomfortable with that. But you're not so weird. We all have our things. :)
