...is that when you touch it, despite washing repeatedly with soap, the smell of it on your fingers lasts for days and days! Particularly enjoyable at nighttime. And who doesn't love the soothing scent of garlic as they try to fall asleep, i ask.

I hear rubbing your hands on stainless steel takes the smell away. In fact, I've even seen little bars of stainless steel molded to look like a bar of soap for that very purpose.
I fondly recall the fall I made chili and smelled like onion for a freakin' month. Mom says, "Rub your hands with salt--that'll do it." No, no it didn't. So, Jen, be wary of this stainless steel talk. Don't get your hopes up.
Yeah... I don't know. At first I thought she said to rub my hands on steel wool. I'm like, ok, that'll probably get rid of the smell, but what do i do about my ripped up hands? ha.
Steel wool or "lambs steel" as you once called it... Anyway, I'm here to say that stainless steel does work (you can use a knife if you're careful or one of the little soap-shaped bar thingies). Stainless steel works well for oniony hands too, which is another extremely attractive scent. Sometimes, however, if you have supersaturated garlic hands, the steel can't take all of it away. But it usually works very well. Anything else you'd like to know about stinky hands?
Actually I think it was "sheep's metal." Yeah... i'm cool. Thanks for the tips. I'll let you know if i have other questions regarding my stinky hands.
Here's an onion question though: How do you avoid crying when cutting an onion? I heard holding a slice of bread in your mouth while you slice absorbs all the yuckies.
Mom told me that she heard from some chef on TV that there's really nothing you can do to avoid the onion tears. But to stop it, they said you're supposed to stick your head in the freezer. It works pretty well and you only look like a fool for a second.
