Goal: No Snow for January

Ok, it's January 17th, halfway through the month. Thus far, we've seen no snow all winter long. Let's keep it that way, folks. Yeah, yeah. I know, snow is pretty..blah blah blah. Those of you who get around in cars, raise your hand. That's what i thought.

Ok, so we're doing well. Except something has happened. Up until now the weather has been freakishly warm. We've gone through much of the month (and the preceding months) in 50-degree temps. Sometimes higher. But as of yesterday the temperature has plummeted significantly and has become, *gasp!* January-like. Crap!

Ok, I just looked at the 10-day on weather.com which says the high for today is 30 degrees. Brrrrr. And, i'm going to ignore that i saw the forecast for Friday says AM snow showers and for Saturday, i'm going to take "flurries/wind" to mean "fairies/wind" in which case i shall expect to see winged pixie-like creatures being blown about. Or maybe it could mean a bunch of cotton fluffs. Or maybe "flurry" means something else, like...furries. Yeah, maybe it's a typo and there is an alarming amount of little furry animals forecasted to fall from the skies. Little bunnies and hamsters. Whoa. Add the wind to that and we have a disaster. (but no snow!) This thought is stirring up the beginnings of a totally awesome sequel to The Day After Tomorrow. Have you seen it? If not, do it and do it now. "Run! Run from the cold!" I was so nervous. I thought the cold was going to get them.

Back to the snow: I'll keep you posted! And no, you couldn't just check the news to find out if it snowed in NY. Go to the source: ME.

(p.s. 3 paragraphs beginning with "Ok" = me being the coolest.)

You know what? It's been freakin' freezin' here for weeks (literally, below freezing) and it's getting old. I'd welcome the snow, if it only meant it's going to warm up...

Oh that sounds nice, Jen. No snow for the entire year. You know, I set that goal at the start of the season which worked until approximately September. And then came that big 24" storm in December...and then the other huge one the next week...and yeah, the giant other one, and yesterday...let's see...I think i'll be happy if we keep it under 100 inches for the year. Of course Highlands Ranch (a suburb of Denver) is already up to 81" so that might be a little optimistic...

The thing I seem to remember about The Day After Tomorrow is that New York was suddenly overrun by wolves. I never understood why all the wolves decided to meet there. But it makes sense now- they were after the furries.

One more thing. Did anyone else think that "Go to the source: ME" meant "Go to the source: Maine"? I was thinking, "is the source of snow info in Maine? or is that just where snow comes from?" haha..i'm a quick one, alright.
