Check out this map of the Caribbean.
Here is a satellite image of all those little islands that make up that chain, or archipelago. These are the lesser antilles or west indies.
Cool, eh?
Here is the island of Antigua, of Antigua and Barbuda.
Isn't it beautiful?
Here is St. John's, the capital of Antigua and Barbuda, and is located on the Antigua island.
Here is me and Sean.
Here is me and Sean in St. John's
We are going to St. John's, on a tiny island in the Caribbean.
!!!! I am SO excited!!! :D
Funny story: We have been looking to take a nice beach trip. We were first looking at Mexico but then Sean realized his passport expired this year and I guess I have to get a new one because my name is different. So then we started looking at the US Virgin Islands, where you don't need a passport. We typed in the name of an island that's part of the Virgin Islands, St John. There is a distinction to be made here: St John is not St JohnS. Note that.
So we booked our trip and then looked at an atlas and realized hey, St Johns is on Antigua and Barbuda, and those aren't that close to the Virgin Islands. Odd. A little more research was done, deductions made, and yeah, we accidentally booked a trip to the wrong place! Who does that?? So we are going to Antigua and Barbuda, NOT the Virgin Islands, and we have to rush our passports to get them in time. :) So funny. I'm just glad I know something about geography and knew Antigua and Barbuda was in the Caribbean. What if we'd accidentally booked a trip to a place off the coast of Madagascar or something? Ok, it would rock, but geez, i'd like some control of/idea as to where I'm going when I step on a plane.
Here are some pictures of our hotel. Let me tell you, it is difficult selecting one. How are we to really know what it's like? We don't. But this one seemed very close to what we wanted which was low key, sandy, right on the beach, and lots and lots of sand. And people gave it a lot of good reviews.
So psyched!!
Not bad. Not bad at aaaall.

Are you going to rollerblade on the beach too?
Oh my gosh, so cool Jen! What fun!
PS. I can't believe you accidentally booked. That's classic. But, hey, I'd probably do the same. St. John, St Johns--what's the diff?
I know, right? They should really warn you about that. Though I do remember seeing "AN" next to St Johns... still.
And yes, yes we WILL rollerblade on the beach.
Sarah and I went to the Caribbean isles on a cruise. St. John(s) was one of them, I think (they all had sand and were surrounded by ocean). I always tried to find something cool about the islands we visited, see some culture, authentic food, but we didn't always have time before we would leave for the next island. You'll have to let me know what it is like--find some culture for me.
Did your ship go around St John in the VI's? Or St John's in Antigua?
I will be on the lookout for some culture, but really, all i want to do is sit on the beach. But if it's really good sand, i'll be sure to tell you about it.
p.s. featurette post will be up soon. maybe today.
Jen, Monica here.....
We totally should have asked to go on vacation with you, instead of dinner. :)
ps. I just got my own blog - inspired by your super sweet blog. Check it out if you get a chance.
