Happiness

I was working on a project when I got tired and went to msn.com where I clicked on an article suggesting 8 factors that make us happy.

This got me to thinking about my own life and what contributes to my happiness these days.  I thought I would quantify those factors and determine their value in a pretty pie chart.

Yes, i have found the secret to happiness.  It's the warbling water bird.  I dare anyone who blows its tail pipe to say they aren't instantly filled with extreme euphoria, that all is and will ever be good and right in the world.

  1. What? There's no "blog readers" portion of your chart? Or are we just a subset of the "friends" category? I suppose we could live with that.

  2. I don't know if we could, Joel. I'm not so sure...

But I do like how your child gets one more percentage point than your spouse. How does Sean feel about this?

  3. Well this is enlightening. I come rank after the boy, ok, ok, and a little ahead of the so-called 'friends.' But the whistle gives you FIVE TIMES more happiness than I do? I am trying not to feel hurt.

  4. The next day, Jen comes home from the store. The whistle lies on the floor, broken into pieces. Sean claims, a little too emphatically, that he heard a crash, and when he ran into the room he saw a dark shape escaping from the window, the whistle lying broken on the floor.

Dinner that night is eaten in silence, the tension so thick you could cut it with a knife. At last, Jen explodes into accusation. "You broke my whistle because you were jealous of it!"

"No, I didn't!" Sean asserts firmly. "It was some animal or something."

Then a neighbor comes over and says sorry, it looks like her cat got into their house and came back home with bits of plastic stuck in his teeth. Everyone eats some conflict resolution pie, which is blueberry.

    The end.

  5. I get it. I have a lightening bolt earring. I know when it comes to happiness love of idols is seriously getting a bum wrap. I like Jen's Log, where things get told like they are.

Also, RE: Joel's short story: Creepy.

  6. Five stars! But of course I love both blueberry pie and fictional mercenary cats.

  7. who doesn't?

Here's the thing though, Sean. The kid is also the biggest contributor to my UNhappiness, so see, he kind of negates himself, and that puts you as the front runner.
