Quotable

Parenthood is just fantastic.  What makes it even more great is when you catch yourself being awesome at it.  Every once in a while, you hear a quote you make that really strikes a chord with yourself, lifts yourself up, helps realign your purpose and hopes for your children in teaching them and helping them be all they can be.

What I said:

"If it's too difficult, then just don't do it!"

Then,

"Uhh... or, just try again, but you have to calm down!"

***BONUS***

These next couple of quotes aren't from me but they do reflect my awesome parenting, which I am always happy to showcase for you.  The three of us were on a walk and Julian, who's also a car (he calls his feet his wheels and when he's tired he ran out of gas, etc)  kept darting right in front of me making me have to stop so short over and over, I felt certain i was going to puke from motion sickness.

It got annoying.  So, trying to teach him a lesson, to give him a harmless taste of his own medicine, I told him, "Julian, stop darting in front of me like that. Do you want to know what it's like? Here..."   And I did it in front of him except it didn't quite work like I'd planned and I ended up bopping into him with my hip, sending him sprawling on the sidewalk where he got a huge bloody scrape on his elbow. YEAH!

Feeling like a winner, I apologized profusely.  He recovered pretty quickly and then throughout the rest of the walk he would turn to me and say things like,

"Mom, don't hurt me again"

and, super sweetly, "Mom, I'm sorry I hurt my elbow."

THREE CHEERS FOR ME.

Anyone have any awesome parenting stories of their own they'd like to share?  I don't want to be the only one, making everyone feel bad for being so lame.

LOVE these. It reminds me of how, when Anna was a toddler, her vehement "no" reaction was to say "ow!" This was especially awesome in public. I would do something helpful, like put her mittens back on so she wouldn't get frostbite, and she would yell, "Ow!" and recoil from me like I had just beat her. Yeah, that was great. The good ol' days.

I've been known to say stuff like, "Hurry and finish your candy or I won't let you have an apple!" And I can't even tell you the number of times I've managed to knock my kids down. They love to walk on the same side that I carry the baby, creating a huge blind spot. This usually happens at Target, so there are always plenty of other mothers around to judge me. It's great.

Nothing is as humiliating as motherhood.
