Hello, friends. (right now I may be solely talking to my keyboard and computer screen. they are the dearest)
November 30th is a great day. First, it's my sister Ashley's birthday. Ash and I are nineteen months apart. Back in the day, whenever her birthday rolled around we were always excited because we felt like we were only one year apart. Since Scottish blood runs in our veins we took the Irish twins thing [when two non-real-twin siblings are, for a time, the same age, because their crazy parents had another kid crazy fast. Are any of you Irish twins? How do you feel about it?] which is a real thing, and, when Nov. 30 comes, for five glorious months, call ourselves Scottish twins. It's pretty special. So happy birthday, Scottish twin.
Second, it's the official kick-off to the Christmas season. I have to really force myself not to jump right in too soon, too fast, lest I run the risk of Christmas overload by the time the actual day arrives, which is the worst. What I end up doing is, say, put up some lights but maybe just white lights. Or play Christmas music but only obscure stuff, not the classic traditional Bing and Manheim Steamroller and whatnot. Things that really stir up the Christmas memories and feels. Seeing as I start mentally singing Christmas songs in July, this is pretty good. Especially compared to Julian, who has next to NO self control, and sings them all year long.
So.
Two years ago I did a blog project called 25 Days of Jen where I blogged about stuff every day in December. Sometimes it was Christmas-related, sometimes not. But it gave me a most needed writerly shake-up and I really loved it. I want to do it again. I thought about giving this go-around a theme, such as Best Thing About Today. But that's probably what each and every blog post is anyway. But we'll see.
Starting tomorrow! Just think: of all the crap you read throughout the day, day after day, one thing you will be able to rely on is a new blog post from me. Merry Christmas, everyone.
