It may be lame to put up a post of a place wherein I no longer reside, but the Dyker Heights Lights have come up WAY too many times recently. It's like all of a sudden the whole world knows about it. We had a friend gathering yesterday with many Brooklyn expats and it just kept coming up again and again. The main theme was that there was a sizable Dyker Heights Lights-shaped hole in our hearts. Something unforeseen but painfully palpable this Christmas season. We all just sat, quietly, a little wistful, while we desperately tried to get our brains to overload on the imaginary spectacle we tried to mentally produce.
So here are some videos for you, to maybe give you an idea of what it's like. If you're ever in NY for Christmas, after you've seen the big tree at Rockefeller, walked down 5th ave and looked at all the shops, apparently you can take a tour bus just for the DH Lights in Bklyn, so you should do that.
This one is a little more professional with better background music.
But this one is more of how it actually feels to go see it. Walking quietly around with the bombardment on all of your senses ever-increasing until you have to bandage your eyes and block everything out to normalize. Ahh, Christmas.
